The 2005 Frostig Collection

Ken Price

earned his BFA from the University of Southern California and then studied with Peter Voulkos at the Los Angeles Art Institute (now Otis Art Institute) before moving to New York. He received an MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. After his return to Los Angeles, he began exhibiting at Ferus and other prestigious art galleries. He has had solo shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Los Angeles County Museum, and is in their permanent collections. He is also shown in the permanent collections of the Hirshhorn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He is represented by L.A. Louver in Venice and Matthew Marks in New York.

Lunk (4" x 4 7/8" x 4 3/4") is a great example of Price’s work; blobby and a bit goofy, yet sensuous and elegant, it impels the viewer to ask, “What is that thing?”
